I was taking some shots of my wife's flowers when I turned around and saw this hawk not more than 20 feet away. It had caught a dove. I kept shooting and taking a step closer. I got within 15 feet before it decided to leave with its dinner.

EOS Rebel T7, ISO 200, 1/400, f/7.1, 240mm. Not the best but I was shooting from shade, across a sunny strip to more shade under a tree.

Nice shot of a Cooper's Hawk! Look at that red eye! They often chase the doves in our yard.

Newton

Thank you. Had one that stayed around for days. Squirrels, birds and rabbits provided a buffet. Took a sackful of photos.

I saw the exact same thing a couple days ago! The hawk flew over the car with a big pigeon in its claws. Looked like it was struggling to maintain flight with such a heavy load. Went into a tree down the road struggling with the pigeon then flew off and dropped the pigeon in the road.
