It surprised me that I wanted to photograph these trees, because I have always been interested mainly in birds and wildlife. But when my wife and I came across this group of manzanitas while hiking near San jose, California, I liked them and took a photo with my iPhone. After studying the photo at home I wanted to return with a real camera (a 7DII and 16-35 mm f/4 in my case). The trees are about an hour's hike from the trailhead and it took 3 trips for me to be satisfied with the results. I learned some things that I'd never had to think about with birds.

Manzanitas are pretty common in the hills around here, but this group seems special, the most beautiful I have seen. I am sharing this photo so that some others might also appreiate them.

Ed
