Fun With An r100

A little over a month ago I purchased an R100. I was hoping to get the closest thing to a classic 1970's SLR, no excessive functionality. I planned to use the thing with my 35mm SLR lenses. Here is a picture of my cat looking out the window on an overcast day. I used the R100 at ISO 400. Color balance was set to 6000k. Picture style was Neutral. Exposure was 1/60 at f2.8. Lens was a 55mm f1.9 Minolta MC Rokkor PF.

The R100 is an amazing camera. I have one and an R8 and hands down the R100 is the "better" camera. I only wish Canon would do an R200 i.e. an R100 with a full frame sensor. The barebonesness of it reminds me of my well-loved K1000. I'm not thrilled with the APSC sensor because of the conversion factor which is why I would never buy an R7 or R10, but for the body price you just have to get one.

I agree with your idea about the R200. It would be nice if someone made a lightweight and sensibly priced full-frame camera which could be made to work in full manual mode like the K1000, F1 or SRT-101. If Canon did so, they could add a mode called F1 (paying homage to their old camera) which would remove from the menu any functions irrelevant to shooting with old lenses and adapters. There are some nice old lenses out there. There are also some other interesting products such as adapters which can add shifts and tilts to any lens. Embrace and allow this aspect of the aftermarket. Perhaps the R200 could move the INFO button to the right of its current location. In manual mode, the INFO button is pressed after the window-shaped button and gives magnification of 5x or 10x- a helpful focusing aid.

The APSC sensor has its drawbacks, but it also has its advantages. If someone likes the perspective that a 55mm lens gives on 35mm or full frame, he could use a f=35mm lens and benefit from more depth of field while having a perspective akin to the 55mm lens.
