First of all I like black and white. That said I love the symmetry of the horses' heads and the asymmetry of the books tonally. The juxtaposition of light versus dark is really quite nice. The image is deceptively simple, yet it's not simplistic. I also like the imagery of books saying "dead" bookended literally by horses' heads. Very clever. How SOOC is it?

Lee,

Thank you.

It's pretty close to what would come straight out of the camera. I shoot in compressed RAW these days, and I did do a little brightening to bring out the horses.

I was telling someone yesterday that my wife bought a couple of boxes to put clothes in, and the insides are a brushed black velvet-like material. They don't reflect light, and the minute I saw them, I thought, "That would make a perfect "black box", (as opposed to a "light box")". They're like a miniature little stage. I thought it worked out pretty well. I've been thinking of how I could rig up a little spotlight.
