In the box is a plastic cover (?) part that is 14" long and 3" wide. It is not on the list of What's Included and I can't see it in the manual. It appears to be something to snap onto my printer on the outside.

Any ideas?

Hi, Mike!

The part you're referring to is most likely the legal dust cover. To accomodate legal-size paper (measuring 8½" x 14") in your imageCLASS MF644Cdw, you'll need to extend the paper drawer. Doing this causes the paper drawer to stick out of the front of the unit. To keep dust and other debris from falling into your paper drawer, just set the legal dust cover on top of it. Your manual has more information on this starting on page 112, and you can view it right HERE.
