Since the Canon MF Toolbox 4.9 refused to play nice no matter what I did I went about and installed NAPS2. Program works and I can save as a PDF.

I really wish that Canon had fixed the Toolbox but it is what it is.

I have the Canon Imageclass MF6590 and recently updated to Windows 10. I downloaded and installed from this site the drivers for the device. Cable used is USB. I can print test pages from the Windows Printer Control Panel. A month ago the scanner part of the driver worked fine. Now it doesn't. The anoying part is the printer prints fine. Any ideas? I really don't like the idea of uninstalling/registry cleaning/and praying to the USB gods.

Good news... bad news... some news. I got the scanner driver to finally recognize and here is what I did. Initial suggestion came from page 3 of the Canon MF Toolbox thread.

Start> run Services.msc

locate Windows Image Acquisition (WMA)

Right click > Properties

Set Startup type: to Automatic

Select the Log on tab:

Select Local System Account
Check Allow service to interact with Desktop

Select the Recovery Tab:

Change First Failure: Option to Restart the Service

Click Apply

This didn't solve the issue but I recalled reading that a couple ports need to be unblocked on firewalls. Now I had the Windows Firewall off and it still insists on blocking ports... so I some rules to the incoming ports. The ports opened were

TCP 80

TCP 8611

UDP 8611

TCP 8612
UDP 8612

TCP 8613

UDP 8614

Guess what the scanner now functions.
However the Canon MF toolbox 4.9 and the Windows store Scan app don't scan. The Canon MF Toolbox brings up a message box that reads "Cannot open scanner. THe scanner is not active or is in use by another application."

the Windows Store Scaner now sees the scanner and will fire the scanner up on preview but nothing happens. It also fails to scan.

However if I go. Control Panel> Hardware and Sound> Devices and Printers. Then select the Canon MF series UFRll LT and then click Start Scan it scans and the preview works.

I just want the other programs to function as well so any ideas will be appreciated.

Thank you.
