Is it possible scan from d530 without having to put the printer in scan mode every time?

I remember when I first installed this printer/scanner, I was able to scan without having to manually put the printer in scan mode every time. Unfortunately, I've since upgraded to Win 10, and done a clean install. Somewhere along the way, I lost the ability to have the PC automatically put my 530 into scanner mode when an app tries to access the scan module.

So far, I've tried it with presto page manager (that comes with the printer), and paint.net. Both times I have to press copy/scan and select remote scanner for it to communicate with my computer.

Is there some setting I can change, or utility I can install so that the printer will switch to the proper scan mode automatically, when I try to capture image data from it?
