Hello, today I have bought Canon i-SENSYS MF667Cdw. I like it, it has blazing fast scan speed, quality color print and Wi-Fi connection but I have one problem with it. I don’t know how to specify scan resolution. According to specification, the MFP should support resolutions up to 600 x 600 dpi.

I have setup MFP for scanning directly with the press of a button on the control panel into network share. But among settings, there is no possibility to set scan resolution. It always scans in 300 dpi. I have looked in the setting in the control panel and in the web interface and found nothing. Do you know where should I look?

OK, so I thought maybe I will be able to set it in a program when scanning from my PC. I have Linux (Kubuntu 24.04). I am using program Skanpage for scanning. It works, but the only resolutions that I can set are 150 and 300 dpi. Now I am wondering. Is there a general setting that needs to be enabled to scan in 600 dpi?

Please let me know your experience. Thanks!

Greetings,

The method for performing this operation has changed.

The ideal method is to use the MF scan utility or scan gear but you're not able to do that.

By default the system should scan at 300 DPI. This is called "standard"

Small is 150

Standard is 300

Large is 600

To use the default setting (Standard) select Scan from the LCD. Select your destination then click on the send settings tab. Scroll down to data size. There you have three settings Small, Standard and Large.

If you want to change the default to another resolution, you do that from the Home screen. Select Menu, Function settings, Send, Scan and send settings, File Settings, change default settings (file). Scroll down and select Data size. This will change the default resolution setting.

More granular control is available in the ScanGear utility for Linux but I don't know if it's available for the MF667cdw. This iSensys product is not intended for sale in the US. You'll have to check for downloads in the country or region where you reside.

Hi,

thank you for your prompt response. I have done some tests. I was scanning from the LCD into network folder. I have set various values for the "Data size" while scanning the same image. All the images have the same resolution and the same dpi values: 2480x3504 px and 300x300 dpi.

They only differ in file size:

Small ... 368 kB

Standard ... 502 kB

Large ... 675 kB

So this doesn't solve my problem.

Another disadvantage that I have found is that I am unable to disable the background removal during scanning.
On my old OKI MC352, this was one of the settings for scanning.

I have dual boot with Windows 10, will I be able to set those settings in Scan Utility under Windows?

I am disappointed, I was expecting more from Canon. I am considering returning the device.

Rasto

Greetings,

Did some more research on this. I was wrong about the DPI. Small, medium, large actually refers to the compression ratio used. Small prioritizes memory. Medium balances storage size and image quality. Large provides the least amount of compression.

At one point you were able to change the scanning resolution but no longer. Now you must use the MF scan utility or ScanGear to control resolution. This is available using these utilities in Windows 10 or Windows 11.
