MF742CDW poor printing quality with some PDF files

Hello,

since several years I have a Canon MF742CDW as a home printer.

I’m not printing that much but I didn’t want the fuzz with a ink cartridge printer anymore.

The printer is connected as a network printer with a mix of Windows 11 and Linux workstations.

Normal text printing is not an issue but printing some PDF files from internet, do not compare at all with the original on the screen.

They are almost unreadable.

I’ve tried serveral settings, UFRII, PCL PS drivers but it doesn’t change a thing.

Windows or Linux, the print result is the same.

I’ve already replaced the cartridges once but the result is still the same.

My neigbour, who has a Brother J6530DW inkjetprinter, the result is as it should and looks similar to the page on the screen.

For a laserprinter which is not cheap, and the cartridges costs a small fortune too, the result is horrible.

I see the same thing with PDFs, and other things too. I have no explanation for why this happens. I have a Canon MF8350cdn color laser (can't tell you how long ago I bought it) , and a newer Brother MFC-9349cdw color laser. They give different-looking output with PDFs and other color materials. For example,the Canon's black text in color output is light. They are very different with color photos.

I'm feeling like this has not always been the case with the Canon. It still is a workhorse and not ready for retirement. I wonder if something is deteriorating in it.
