Rick,

I am having the same problem with my MF656cdw. It used to happen intermittently, but now it happens every time my computer either goes to sleep or restarts. I have to turn the printer off and back on again to get it to find the computer (sometimes it finds 3 instances of my computer after restart). Printing works flawlessly, as does scanning thru MF Scan Utility. It just loses track of my computer after it takes a nap and I try to scan from the lcd panel.

Details:

Driver installed is MF650CMFDriverV720W64

I'm on Win 11 24H2

Network discovery is turned on

Wireless connection

I'm not 100% certain, but I want to say this started to be a constant problem after a windows update earlier this summer. When I was troubleshooting, I noticed that the scanner was no longer listed under Printers & Scanners, even though I can use it, and that if I click on the printer, under more information it says "Scanners not appearing." If I click on that I get a Microsoft webpage that discusses protected print mode. Protected print mode is NOT enabled on my computer.

Thanks!

Hi All,

This is my second posting on this issue- the first didn't get a response in June and I still have the same issue, so here goes:

When I try to scan to my computer, the Canon printer says "Connect the computer". However, it is connected, as I print from my computer to the printer consistently, with no issues.

Since the connection between the Canon printer and the computer works, what do I need to do to get the scanner to recognize the connection to the computer?

Do I need a warranty service request? I just purchased it in January 2025. Thanks!

Greetings LadyAG,

I'm quite sure your printer is not defective. This issue likely has something to do with configuration or connection.

What is the version and build of the operating system you're using the printer with?

How is the printer connected, and to what?. USB, ethernet, wireless?

Lastly, what drivers did you install. Please provide the exact names of the installers you used.

This is for your reference:
