topic Using 80# cardstrock in my Canon MF656Cdw printer ... acceptable margin or crazy talk? in Office Printers

Officially, I believe 73# cardstock weight is the max for my Canon MF656Cdw printer. However, I just realized that the cardstock I purchased and want to use is actually 80# weight. Rats. Dare I attempt to use it? How risky is it to be 7# over the recommended limit? Thank you for any pro tips!

Greetings,

I've not tried using heavier weight papers in my 644 or 656. To be safe using the max specified weight is recommended. Heavier weight papers could jam the printer. It might work single sided, but I would not try duplex. Afraid I can't be more definitive. You should be able to order paper in the recommended weight online. This might be best.

You can try it. Either it works or it doesn't.

There are three properties involved in paper handling through a printer....weight, thickness and stiffness. Actually, four. The surface finish can affect grip by transport rollers.

A slightly heavier weight can be flexible enough that it's not a problem. A slightly heavier weight can be no thicker than a lighter weight. The weight (full term is Basis Weight) doesn't tell the whole story.
