Greetings ,

Thank you very much for your feedback. I'm glad you got it sorted out. I purchased both of my lasers prior to the master setup utility being offered so I've never used it. I did note however that it's now offered at the top of the driver's list with the recommended heading. The 465dw is a great black and white printer. It's small footprint is perfect for home office. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I just purchased a new MF465dw, have updated the firmware via the control panel and attempted to connect to Windows 10 pro, build 19045.5965 (with automatic updates)

I downloaded mastersetupv110, and the drivers (MF460SeriesMFDriverV7851W64). Mastersetup could not find the printer via either USB or WiFi, so I terminated the app and ran the driver installation. The installation stalled trying to find the printer but I could see and added the printer via Windows ADD A PRINTER OR SCANNER. It will print but I cannot scan from the unit using winmfscanutilityv12102, Windows Fax and Scan (error message "No Scanners were detected..."), or via the unit's control panel.

I searched this forum and seeing others' similar queries and answers (mainly @shadowsports) have uninstalled the drivers a couple of times but cannot find a way to get Scan to run. At no time did any Canon app ask me about firewalls.

Advice welcomed.

Greetings

I'd be happy to try and help 🙂.

Are you using any 3rd party antivirus?

Please pick one connection method and stick with that. I would suggest wireless since this offers the most flexibility and allows any device connecting to your network to use the printer.

Login to your router's admin porta. Depending on your wireless hardware, this will either be through a web browser or on an app on your smartphone. Make the connection to this network on the printer. Note, the printer only supports a 2.4 GHz broadcast that uses WPA2 encryption. Press the wireless button on the printer's LCD and follow the prompts.

Now return to the routers admin portal and look at your list of attached devices. Confirm that the printer is in fact connected and has been assigned an IP address.

Optional but recommended I would assign a static IP to the printer. This is done in your router's admin portal. You'll need to power cycle the printer and ensure it now appears in the list of attached devices with the IP that you've assigned.

Once this is complete, open a command prompt and ping the IP address. Confirm the printer replies. You can also enter the IP into a web browser and its web server login should display.

You only need two installers for the device to print and scan.

One is the print driver UFRII that includes ScanGear and the other is the MF scan utility v1.21.02 that you appear to have already installed.

I've never run the master setup to see what it actually does. I suspect that it installs the toner status utility which I do not use.

I suggest that you not run the updated installer (I mentioned )until you have confirmed the printer is connected to the Wi-Fi network. It has a static IP and you can ping it from your W10 machine.

Once the above has been confirmed/verified) I would remove the device from printers and scanners, and uninstall the standalone print driver and master setup software. Now restart your computer.

To be thorough, open a web browser and enter the IP of the printer, you should see its web server or open a command prompt again and ensure you can ping it.

At this point you should be able to run the print driver that includes ScanGear. If the printer does not detect, go back and use the button at the bottom of the installation screen that says enter IP.

Enter the IP that you've assigned to the printer and hit next.

Let us know how you make out.

Rick - Thanks SO much it's now all working.

When I used the WiFi connection and ran the drivers installer (MF460SeriesMFDriverV7851W64) with UFR II option, I was prompted to turn off the Windows Firewall as part of the process and I can now both print and scan (and I also successfully set this up on a second computer).

Canon promotes MasterSetup as a Recommended Download in the support for the device. The filename suggests it to be the starting point for setting up the printer and during the process it prompts connection via USB. This seems to have been the source of my problem.
