topic MF753CDW: Error #853 Feedback in Office Printers

Hello Everyone! My company purchased a canon MF753CDW for a group of users. Specifically, to use Universal Print.

It was a bit of a hassle to use, and I wanted to explain the issue and how it was fixed, as well as let Canon know that the manual needs to be updated.

The Printer was registered to Universal Print, and the Universal Print Driver installed itself on the Windows 11 machine fine via searching for a printer using Work or School account.

But trying to print to it alway failed with error code #853.

We checked all that was suggested: Disabled secure print, looked at other network settings. The print job was not a large print job, nor should it have been corrupted.

See image below from Canon's manual.

What it turned out to be was that we were trying to print with a 300 dpi, and this printer does not support 300 dpi, only 600 or 1200. Microsoft's Universal Print driver that is installed when you use Universal Print, defaults to 300 DPI.

That 853 error code does not mention anything about DPI issues causing that error. This isn't a problem if you're printing directly via say, a direct network connection since the Canon Generic Print Driver defaults to 600 dpi.

Canon, please review and update your manual and your troubleshooting to account for this issue.
