Printer not using paper tray 1 after multi purpose tray is empty (227dw printer)

Hi, all - How do you set the 227dw so it pulls paper from Drawer 1 after the MP tray is empty?

On my other Canon printers, if I put in a single sheet of paper in the multi purpose tray, and print several pages, on all but the 227dw it will print the first page on the sheet in the MP tray, then start pulling paper from the regular tray ("Drawer 1").

On the 227dw, it prints the first page, then gives an error saying out of paper. 😞 [There is, of course, plenty of paper in Drawer 1.]

Both paper trays are set to "Letter" in the settings. I just updated the firmware to the latest, still same problem. This is on windows 7.

So, how the heck do you set the 227dw so it pulls paper from Drawer 1 after the MP tray is empty???
