Ah, I just reseated all the toner carts and the sound seems to have gone away for now. I'll report back if it returns, but it'll be great (and a little embarrassing) if it's just that simple.

Edit: Nope, squeal is back a couple prints later.

To answer the other questions, printer was purchased new in March 2021. Only ever used OEM toner carts, on the 4th set now. Nothing obviously out of whack, no plastic or metal shavings I can see.

Really sounds like a roller/feeder bearing or something, as the noise starts up right before it starts printing and continues a second or two after the paper has been spit out.

My MF644Cdw has started making a horrible squealing noise when printing. I've run through all the maintenance/cleaning procedures with no luck. Really seems like something needs to be lubricated. Any ideas?

Greetings,

While the sound in your video is a bit muffled, I do agree it doesn't sound completely normal. Neither of my devices make those kind of sounds 644/656.

Was this printer purchased new? (also how old is it)?

Are you using OEM toners or 3rd party?

Have you inspected the interior, slid the toner drawer/carrier out and re-seated all of the toners? Look for something out of alignment, spilled toner, binding and / or metal or plastic shavings.

Think I might have solved the issue by printing a couple dozen pages with a lot of color. Wondering if not using any color for a while - mainly printing b&w docs - resulted in some "stickiness" on the color toner carts?
