Canon Imageclass MF656Cdw scanner quality & artifacts

Recently got an Imageclass MF656Cdw to replace an old Epson Worforce WF-3520, and found the quality of the scanner to be extremely poor compared to the Epson, both at 600dpi with same settings. The scans from the Canon are more blurry and with fewer details than the old Epson, but more concerning is that it creates a lot of rectangular artifacts in dark areas of photos. Please see images attached for examples.

Does anyone experience similar issues with their scanner? Not sure if there's any setting change I could try, as all attempts to increase quality have been in vain.

I've been experiencing the exact same kind of artifacts with my Canon MF644Cdw and wondered how I can get better scan quality. Have you found any solutions?

I would like to understand what media you are trying to scan. Pictures, documents? Are you using the ADF or platen? I own the MF644 and 656. My scans come out crisp and very clear. The artifacts in the images above appears to be due to the age and quality of the photos. Resolution and BitDepth can cause pixelation. They also might be small images which were made larger. You can only enlarge a low resolution image so far. I can't tell from the poor-quality images. We have no idea what they started with. The images look old, dry and have a lot of dust. I also see some hair or fuzz. Dust can cause dots and anomalies. I'd be happy to look at your images if you provide some examples.
