Hi,

I have a new MF270dw and I am trying to print on labels from Tower. The labels are for ink jet and laser. However, all the labels are printed as follows:

It is also as if the text is embossed on the label. Printing on paper works perfectly

macOS 14.5 (23F79) Sonoma; Canon_MF270_Series_UFR_II; 10.19.17

Thanks for joining the conversation, Kenjutsu!

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which Canon printer model you're using within the MF270 series. The model number should appear on the front of the unit at the bottom right. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.

Thanks and have a great day!

Sorry for not providing the full details earlier. The printer model is an i-SENSYS MF275dw.

The best way I can explain the issue is that it seems as if the fuser unit does not apply enough heat or pressure for the toner to fuse properly to the label. The labels are A4-sized "stickers" with different labels per page. After printing on the label, I can actually feel the text that was printed since it stands out from the label; in other words, it is not smooth to the touch. I can also use my fingernail to scrape the printed text off the label. I hope that makes more sense. 😉

Greetings,

Are you using OEM toner with the device or 3rd party? Since you have satisfactory results printing on plain paper, I would try a different brand of labels. Ones specifically for laser.

Hello Rick,

I am still using the OEM toner that came with the printer. The labels are certified for laser printers, and I noticed that the first two rows of labels seem to print fine. However, as it moves down the page, more and more of the toner is not fused correctly to the labels. I'm wondering if there is a way to slow down the printing; maybe that would help?

As a follow up: the first two rows seem to print fine, meaning that the toner fused properly onto the label, and they are smooth to the touch. 😕

I'm not a tech support agent; however, I'd like to offer a tiny bit of insight.

Canon doesn't directly support label printing because there are many different brands, sizes, and types. If you're having issues, we recommend contacting the label manufacturer to see if they have recommendations on the best practices for printing onto their product.

I was finally able to get it working. In Word when I print the document, at the Print window, I scroll to Printer Options -> Paper Source -> Paper Type and select Labels. When I click Print, the printer complains that there are no labels in Drawer 1, only plain A4 paper. I figured out that on the printer, I must manually select Labels as the paper type for Drawer 1 before printing from Word. When I print on plain A4 paper, I must then set the paper type for Drawer 1 on the printer back to Plain before printing. It is a bit tedious to always do this on the printer itself, and it would be better if the printer simply accepted the paper type specified in the print job. Luckily, the printer is connected via USB to my MacBook and not via Wi-Fi in another room.
