I finally figured out the problem. I installed the Canon printer driver from the CD instead of using the automatic Microsoft driver.

imageCLASS MF455dw How to use optional paper cassette without manual intervention

I installed the AH-1 paper cassette, and it shows up in the settings and as an option for printing. But every time I want to print to that tray, I have to OK the type of paper in the tray before the machine will print. Since the printer is in a different room from where I work, this is annoying. I've looked through all the printer settings and applied the plain paper setting to tray 2. What am I missing?
