I finally found a clue after the installation was successful on my laptop and on my wife's computer. It turns out that an error message was opening underneath the installation window, so I never saw it.</P><P>The message says that a fax driver is running. I thought that I found the source of the problem, the old PaperPort scanner program (it is disabled in the startup list). I went into the registry and deleted the fax entries for PaperPort.
