MF741C Prints extra pages

Our MF741C printer occasionally prints an extra page after the print job is done. That extra page has a large gray "V" that extends tha width of the paper . The lines of the V are about 1 1/2 inth thick and the V is about 3 inches high. It looks sort of like a gray chevron. It doesn't happen all the time and we have not noticed a pattern for when it happens. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answering the following questions will help narrow down possible causes, and reach a solution.

Does this occur when printing documents with an odd number of pages? With an even number of pages?

Is there a watermark set to print on your documents? In the Finishing tab's advanced settings, try enabling [Print Last Page in 1-sided Mode When 2-sided Printing is Set].

What operating system is on the computer or computers experiencing this phenomenon?

Does this happen when making copies on the MF741Cdw itself?

This happens for both of our computers, which are HP Envy x360 running Windows 10. It happens irregularly enough that we have hot detected a patterns in when it occurs. So, I cannot tell you if it happens with even or odd numers of pages. We don't make many copies and cannot recall if it happens then or not. Neither of us has used watermarks. Most recentlly, I was printing two emails from gmail. They were both confirmations of appointments for two different days from the same sender, so they were identical except for the date and time of the appointments. One printed with the extra page and one did not. The exra page was an additional sheet of paper and was not printed on the back side of the email. Both were one page documents but the priinter was set for 2 sided printing as a carryover from a prior print job. We could not find the setting that you suggested we turn off. We found the settings page and the finishing tab and the advnced settings, but that setting was not listed.

One more setting I can think of that would cause this sort of effect is the Auto Cleaning setting. Check whether this is enabled or not; if it's enabled, those extra pages are the printer cleaning itself, and the chevrons are the excess that's been cleaned off.

I was unable to find the setting for Automatic Cleaning, just lie I was unable to find the setting for printing the last page of a two sided printing on only one page, which was suggested in the previous message fro Canon. I suggest in the future that you tell the user how to find the setting when you sugget that the user consult a setting. It is enormously frustrating to have to spend a lot of time looking for a setting. Based on the comment from Canon, I ran a routine from the printer menu to clean the fixing assembly. That resulted in printing the image that I have been asking about, except that it was dark black rather than light gray. So, it seems that the image that I asked about is really an indiation that the automatic cleaning process has run. But, since I cannot confirm that the automatic cleaning setting has been turned on, I cannot be 100% sure. Please try to do better in the future. Thank you,
