Unknown part that came with printer

ImageClass MF743Cdw printer. Came with plasitic part that was not explained in any documentation that I could find.

Photo included.

Can anyone tell me if it is needed and where it would be placed?

Hi, dcollens! The part in question is the legal dust cover. To use legal-sized paper, you have to extend the paper tray and by doing that, it will no longer be flush with the front of the printer. The legal dust cover is there to keep dust and debris from falling into the paper tray in this circumstance. Your manual covers this on pages 113 and 114, and you can view that HERE.
