thank you .. I have a 50 mm and a zoom lens I know I probably have to buy another lens maybe a 24-70 ? Or which other lens is good for portraits and events. I was thinking maybe in about spending $1500 or less if possible.

Greetings ,

We're happy to help with upgrade recommendations. To do that will need to know what your budget is? If you own lenses and plan to use them with a new camera, we need to know what those are to. Depending on the age of things, it might be more economical to replace more than just the camera. It depends on what you have now.

Greetings,

Since DSLRs are no longer being developed, my upgrade recommendation for a new camera would be mirrorless. For reference, your 60D is a 14 yr old camera. You can stretch your budget a bit buying Canon Refurbished gear. (Same 1 yr warranty as new gear) with significant cost savings.

For portraits and events, a focal range between 24 - 135m would work well. Full frame is more desirable for portraiture. Body's with a full frame sensor offer a more shallow depth of field and greater separation between subject and background. You will also appreciate the perspective when shooting at events. This is a great article (short read) on the difference between APS-C and full frame (Canon Europe)

APS-C vs full-frame - Canon Europe (canon-europe.com)

Your current gear. I would sell, gift or donate the body and 2 lenses to offset the replacement. Given their age and what you have, adapting the lenses is not economical (advisable). Example, an EF to EOS R adapter is $99-$129. A native RF50mm is $99. It doesn't have to be adapted and will fit any mirrorless body moving forward.

I'd like to suggest 2 options, with emphasis on performance, flexibility and budget. The R8 (full frame) and the R10 (APS-C).

R8 (Body only)
R8 w/24-50mm
RF 24-105mm f4-7.1
RF 100-400

The recommendation above is a full frame option with some lenses that would cover and extend the range of coverage you have now. 24-400mm. Its something you can build upon and doesn't have to be done all at once. The 24-105mm could be used for portraits and events. The 100-400 will provide that extra reach you were accustomed to with your older zoom (which you didn't identify) Guessing 75-300?? This body also offers a broader range of features and better low light performance.

R10 w/ RF-S 18-150mm

This is lower cost option with an APS-C sensor. It still represents a substantial upgrade in optical quality and performance. Obviously, there are many options. Take your time with this decision. I recommend you do a little of your own research. We can help with questions. I hope the article above will also help in your decision making process.
