Greetings,

Try calling the Canon parts order desk. Since the binoculars are retired they may not have the part, but you can try. (866) 481-2569

The battery cover does not latch. The metal contact piece is present; it fits in the battery cover, but no latch is present. Is it possible to get and install a replacement latch or fashion a replacement latch? The previous owner used a piece of Duct Tape to hold the cover in place (ugly).

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The 14 x 45 IS binoculars are an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them Monday through Friday at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

The binocular belongs to a charity I volunteer for. We would like to solve the battery compartment lid issue so we could sell the binocular for what they are worth. The optics are in excellent condition; the IS works well.

The only support needed from Canon is providing a part. Is that too much to ask?

-Denis

I wonder if there is anyone here who has the same binocular who can take some close up photos of the battery compartment latch? That would help me understand what is missing on mine. I am hoping to fabricate a replacement for the latch; knowing what the original design looks like would help.

Just open the battery compartment cover and take a close-up photo of the underside of the cover.

Thanks so much for the help.

-Denis
