I think you should create a KB article so we can sticky it as a tip.

Microsoft and several other brands are really pushing Snapdragon/ARM based processors with new laptops. You are correct, there is a large user base who have no idea of the lack of peripheral device support with systems based on this architecture. ☹️.

A lot of posters are having trouble getting printer and scanner software to install and work on their new computers with Windows. There is a lack of awareness about the reason.

Some time ago a new type of CPU was introduced, called ARM, or the brand name SnapDragon. This CPU has a very different architecture than the Intel and AMD processors in use for many years. So different, in fact, that an ARM-compatible version of Windows had to be created. There are TWO different Windows 11s....for Intel/AMD and for ARM. The "standard" Windows does not install/work on ARM-equipped computers. Many new computers and tablets have ARM processors and come with Window for ARM installed on them.

When you buy a new computer/tablet you MUST be aware of what type of CPU it has. When looking for printer & scanner software/drivers you MUST look that they are ARM-compatible. Intel/AMD/Windows 11 64-bit drivers are NOT ARM compatible.

When buying a printer/scanner you MUST know if it is compatible with the Windows computer you have or are buying. This is a whole new subject that is causing a lot of regrets out there and on this forum. And it is compounded by this requirement not being made public or clear to computer and peripheral buyers who aren't hardware-knowledgeable, along with Canon and possibly other makers not offering ARM-compatble drivers for new equipment and existing equipment.

I couldn't decide the best board to post this in so I chose All Community. How do I post it in the Knowledge Base?

You're right, of course, about printers not being the only problem. Scanners too, as seen on the Forum. And it's not just with laptops. There are ARM-processor desktops also.
