My neighbor found a Canon 250 D in his rental car. Upon returning the car, he inquired on who last rented the car ( San Francisco). The company would not provide the info. He asked if they could call or notify the prior renter that he has their camera, they said to just leave the camera with them - he did not do this. I am a photographer and my neighbor asked if I could help. I downloaded the canon EOS utility and connected the camera to it via Wi-Fi. The owner did not input their name/ownership . I have the serial number. I tried to find a phone number to see if the owner had registered the product, but the on-line prompting was no help plus no phone numbers were provided. We would like to get the owners camera back to him. Anyone have a direct phone contact to the registration folks?

thanks!

Russ

We cannot divulge any personally identifying information to protect the privacy of the rightful owner. You (or your neighbor) can contact support at 1-800-652-2666. When the automated system asks, tell it you need technical support for a Rebel SL3. A support agent will be able to search by the serial number to see if it's registered.

My complements on attempting to find the owner. Might take a while but worthwhile. Good move to not leave the camera with the rental company. Someone would have a free camera.

Thank-you! I contacted that number and unfortunately the owner never registered it. Looks like my neighbor has a camera.

RussJC,

Have you looked at any of the pictures the previous owner may have taken that have any identifiable places or people on them?

A backwards approach might be to place an ad in a local Facebook, or Instagram page asking if anyone lost a camera. They would have to give you the serial number to prove it's theirs.

I did look at the photos on the camera to see if it would help. However, there were only a few, couple of people and one of a dog. No background to reveal location. Since it was found in a rental car, the owner could be from anywhere. Also possible they are foreign visitors but not obvious.

Should have left it with the rental office.
