Cannon Printer MG 2522

On May 1st, I was trying to download a cannon printer and Cannon's 'live chat' sent me a tech who I allowed to enter my pc and he became irate and called me names, and a 'f..ing basterd' . I ask him to exit my PC and I closed the browser. When I went back on, he had destroyed my hard drive (Best Buy-Geek Squad) and posted something on my face book that got me permanently banned. I would hope Cannon would have monitor records that you could send to me or facebook to show that I was hacked via Cannon 'live chat'. Thank you/ Rich Shoenhair//Austin Co.

Thanks for reaching out to us, Rich! We're quite certain that the people you talked to weren't affiliated with or endorsed by Canon USA. If you still need help setting up your PIXMA MG2522, you're welcome to talk to our PIXMA support team. You'll need to register your printer first and that will give you access to all of your support options including our 800 number.

We also noticed that you consistently spell our company's name as "Cannon" with two Ns in the middle. If you spelled our name that way when you searched for support options, it may have landed you on a questionable web site which may have been impersonating a tech support service but which might have had nefarious ulterior motives. Please make sure you spell our name as Canon (with just one N in the middle) to improve your chances of getting help from the right people.

Hope to help you soon!

To put it simply, Rich42, you were deceived and scammed by someone pretending to be Canon.

Can't blame Canon for that.

It was an Official 'looking' Cannon web site and a Cannon 'live chat'...so you are telling me that when i entered... "Download Cannon mg 2522"... that a scammer with an official 'looking' Cannon website just happened to pop up and scammed me? You have a hacker in your midst that you know about, or should know about. Hopefully Cannon monitors it's live chats and Cannon would have a record of my incident.

I note that you're still typing things out as "Cannon" (two ns) instead of "Canon". As Danny mentioned, please be sure to use the correct spelling (one n). Otherwise you risk going to incorrect web sites and getting scammed.

Also, moderators will edit it out later, but refrain from putting your email, phone numbers or any other personal info in these messages.

Ok, so whether I put in Cannon or Canon, it popped up as an official Canon web site with an 'official looking live chat'. So go ahead and enter >Download Cannon MG 2225< in your device and check out your theory. Canon should want to know who is scamming their customers. If Canon monitors their 'live chats' then the answers to my situation would be there. Thank you for your response. Rich42

If it was an innocent mistake, with the Cannon vs. Canon spelling, I had to buy a new desktop PC and got a permanent ban from face book because I attempted to download a MG 2522 printer to my PC. John's statement: It would be hard for Canon or any company to keep track of thousands of scammers around the world.

John > Especially if you don't try when you have an opportunity. I'll be glad to send you my hacked Desk Top for your Geek Squad to possibly track a hacker who using Canon to commit fraud. I'm 77 years old and on a fixed income, so this was a difficult experience. Losing face book for something someone else did and face book won't even discuss the matter or tell me what was posted. Permanently banned (for trying to down load a Canon printer) (little violin playing) The upside ? I now get daily Canon ads on my PC ! Thank you. 🙄

Be carefull when you get older...trust me...it will happen to you and it isn't all that much fun.

I'm old too. Getting old does not mean you stop making sense.

Like a permanent ban from Facebook because of downloading a printer? How are these connected?

Geek Squad is a service of Best Buy. Canon doesn't have a computer-repair service.

You did not have to buy a new computer. If your computer was infiltrated by a scammer and made unusable, the hard drive could be wiped if it was uncleanable, and your operating system installed fresh. A local computer service (like Geek Squad or other) could have helped you with that.

"Daily ads from Canon"? Have someone look at these ads for you to see if they are real Canon ads or garbage, now that a scammer has your name. Stopping them could be an easy thing.

Hi Rich,

Just to recap and put an end to this thread. Canon USA did not hack your computer; you were speaking with a 3rd party operating under the guise of offering support. Canon USA does not work with 3rd parties and is not liable for actions from other companies. Please contact the authorities if you feel you have had a crime committed against you and consider seeking technical support for your computer via a local repair shop. You will need to contact Facebook support for concerns about that account.

If you need further help with your PIXMA MG2522, you can contact us on our official website, I've taken the liberty of linking to the account page HERE.
