Recycling used inkjet cartridges: Fedex won't accept!

I just visited several local Fedex offices hoping to drop off some used Pro2100 ink cartridges for recycling per Canon's program (see screenshot below). All the locations were recommended from the Canon website. None had ever heard of the program. All said I was the first person ever to ask about it. They would not take the cartridges.

Even if this is a local anomaly (I'm in Northern California) someone needs to update the website!

Thanks for calling this to our attention, malebron! While we double-check our listings, we recommend checking with office supply stores such as OfficeMax, Office Depot, and Staples as they may also accept ink cartridges for recycling.

The Office Depots in my area all have giant ink/toner recycling bins just inside the entrance of their stores.

Thanks Danny. I'm not looking for a solution (as you say, there are plenty) - simply reporting this problem with Canon's website.

When Canon tells customers they have a "program" in place - many might be persuaded to go there first - expecting a manufacturer approved process, rather than whatever a random big box store may do. Especially if, as in my case, FedEx shipping centers are more plentiful and convenient.

Just trying to save others from some wasted time...

NOT helpful as those programs are limited to 5-10 at a time....if the program is on your website and you SPECIFICALLY state that 1600 FEDEX sties accept cartridges for recycling, WHY haven'r any of them heard of it?!?!?!?!!?!

It's called lack of communication. Rarely are the employees are told or aware of different programs by companies.

I appreciate that Canon does more than most other companies in recycling cartridges and I am thankful for it. I'm glad malebron brought this topic up, though. I am running into the same situation here in Iowa -- none of the Fedex store employees have ever heard of this program and so will not take them unless I have a label -- apparently not an option with inkjet cartridges. I tried calling ahead to Fedex and just get stuck in the phone tree 'swamp' at Fedex and their virtual chat assistant has not heard of it either. I will go ahead and drop my cartridges at Staples but I wanted to add my voice to malebron's original report of this problem so that if Canon is going to offer this program, they need to work with Fedex to make it more viable for the end user. If Fedex is not going to take them, then, Canon, just tell us to drop them off at Staples, Office Depot, etc.

Yes, I saw that. Postage is on me then. This does not really address the issue but re-routes this issue into a less acceptable alternative thereby satisfying your need to answer me but avoiding the issue at hand. The issue is that Fedex stores I called and visited do not accept inkjet cartridges -- the Fedex phone tree and virtual assistant are unaware of this program, too. Canon should either stop saying that Fedex accepts the inkjet cartridges on their website or work with Fedex to make it a reality for more of us.
