I want to buy a new canon camera, but my computer only accepts avi. The new cameras all use mov. I was thinking of buying an independent moviemaking software to bypass this problem. Any suggestions?

Have you tried downloading any of the free programs that can read mov files? Start by checking out Quick Time by Apple.

As for a good editer look at Adobe Premier.
