Canoscan 9000F buttons

Hi, have a bit of a weird problem here......when I press the buttons on my scanner it <<usually>> starts MP navigator and everything works exactly as it should.....but....on occasions it does nothing at all !

Device manager recognises the scanner when I turn it on but nothing else happens when the buttons are pressed, if I manually open MP Navigator then whatever function I requested (copy, scan & email etc) immediately starts and runs OK

The problem appears to happen if the PC is shutdown into standby mode for a while

I am running Win7 64bit and have deleted and re-installed all the Canon software and have also tried different USB ports
