rddelliott,

Canon USA requires a copy of the receipt for any and all warranty procedures. We do not require a copy of the warranty card.

That being said, gray market items are items that are intended for sale outside their original country of origin. So you may have purchased a camera or camcorder that was not destined for sale in the USA.

The issue would arise if, let's say, you bought a PAL version of a camcorder. The Factory wouldn't be set up to change parts on an imported PAL camera that doesn't support the native NTSC standard which is what we use here in North America. It's these types of issues that are faced when import products are sent in for service.

The Canon Factory Service Center would be the ones who determine the actual sate of the warranty, based off whether or not you have a receipt dated within a year and the repair is one normally covered, IE: not liquid, sand or impact damage.

To ensure you receive guaranteed warranty service on your purchase, we recommend only purchasing products that are designated USA products.
