topic EOS R5 and IBIS High Res - Some Examples and My Thoughts in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

First off, the files are JPeG and you do not need DPP 4 to view and edit these files, but it does a good job with them. My other programs give me a memory warning, and one will not open the files, but it is an older program. I use a Dell XPS 17, 16gb RAM, i7 10th gen 6 core, 2TB NVMe drive, quite modest. I don't own PS anymore and am curious how it handles the files.

These files are really big, my examples averaged over 150mb. IMO, the files you produce are best for printing. I get just as good res and detail with the R5 Raw, I was shooting both. Don't get me wrong, these files are very detailed for JPeG, but limit you to a specific type of photography. Your camera and subject have to be perfectly stationary. I set up a light panel and tripod to get the rose and had to use a 10 second timer, but I have wooden floors and have to stand perfectly still to settle down the camera 🙂 As for it not shooting Raw, I just don't know, I'm torn on that. How big would a Raw file be if the jpg is 150mb? (somebody do the math for me). It already takes the camera about 10 seconds to complete the shot. The moon shot was a total fail as I suspect just the movement of the Earth, atmospheric movement, and who knows what else, just wouldn't let me get a good shot. I've taken about 30 shots in general and figure that's about it for me. I have it if I need it, but suspect it will be used very little.

R5, RF 100mm f/2.8 Macro, 1/40th, f/7.1, ISO 800. This file was reduced from full frame 25,000+px to 1280px at the same ratio of the R5 sensor.

Cropped from the above full frame 25,000+px to 8,100+ (R5 FF) to 1280 for posting.

R5, RF 100mm f/2.8 Macro, 1/60th, f/4.5, ISO 640. This file was reduced from full frame 25,000+px to 1280px at the same ratio of the R5 sensor.

R5, RF 100-500mm L, 1/1000th, f/7.1, ISO 400. This file was Cropped from full frame 25,000+px to 6,100+ then reduced to 1280 for posting.

Pixel Shift.

From Raw. R5, RF 100-500mm L, 1/1000th, f/7.1, ISO 400. This file was Cropped from full frame 8100+px to 6,100+ then reduced to 1280 for posting. As you can see, the Raw has more detail.

Raw.

I know I've left some stuff out, but I will try to revise the thread as I remember stuff.

Newton
