EOS Rebel T7 Filter for outdoor photos?

I took a bunch of photos in anticipation of a magazine article. My grandson was fishing a mountain stream near home. I set the T7 to P and tweaked the settings. The start of the day was cloudy and overcast. The rest of the day was shade and/or bright sun. I reviewed the photos and some came out very good, others were dull like the old days of B&W TV. I was thinking if any filter would be of advantage. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks. Oh yes, Happy New Year to all!

Can you post samples of good and "bad" images to Dropbox or One Drive?

When you were tweaking settings how did the images look when examined on camera? In "P" mode you generally can't change exposure. If you shift one value (like shutter speed for example) the camera will adjust the aperture to maintain correct exposure.

Sounds like you have higher contrast images vs lower contrast ones. But depending upon the scene, you may want low contrast.

As John mentioned, we really need to see examples along which what you dislike about them.
