My canon SL2 would stop closing its shutter after a while when I shoot with off camera flash. It always start out fine but after an hour or so it would act up. The shutter would just freeze in an open state. Switching between live view and view finder would not help closing it. Not even turning off the camera or switching to different modes. The ONLY thing that would close the shutter is to release battery and put it back in. I’m new to issues with camera so I may have used incorrect terms to describe it. Hope someone with more experience can give me some insight. Thank you for reading.

Hello oanhlai can you still see through the view when the camera acts up. It sounds as if your mirror isn't returning to the down position for viewfinder shooting.

-Demetrius

EF 16-35mm F/2.8L III USM, EF 24-70mm F/2.8L II USM, EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM (Retired 8/2007-11/8/2022), EF 50 F/1.8 STM & EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS III USM

EOS 40D (Retired 8/2007-5/26/2022) & 5D Mark IV

430EX III-RT & 600EX II-RT

I would still see everything on the live view. I think you are correct the mirror would stay up when I remove the lens to check it. Normally when I press that little button to switch between live view and view finder you would hear the click sound but when it acts up the shutter wouldn’t move.

I shoot manual mode. It only happen when I use off camera flash. I have never noticed mirror lockup in menu but I would check again. What does that do and why there is such a feature? It’s canon sl2 so it doesn’t have a lot of features like other more advanced models.

Mirror Lockup is used for long exposure bulb photography pictures. This reduces any camera shake and image blur. This is setting is best used when the camera is a tripod with a long shutter speed ie more than 30" with the mode dial set to "B". Or on older cameras "M" mode.

-Demetrius

EF 16-35mm F/2.8L III USM, EF 24-70mm F/2.8L II USM, EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM (Retired 8/2007-11/8/2022), EF 50 F/1.8 STM & EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS III USM

EOS 40D (Retired 8/2007-5/26/2022) & 5D Mark IV

430EX III-RT & 600EX II-RT

I see what you are saying, though I don’t think it was because of the setting. I have checked and my camera doesn’t seem to have that feature either.
