Hi zoethomson The Rebel SL3/ EOS 250D will not work with your studio lights. The camera lacks the center contact on the hot shoe. The only flash units you can use are Canon's speedlites.

-Demetrius

EF 16-35mm F/2.8L III USM, EF 24-70mm F/2.8L II USM, EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM, EF 50 F/1.8 STM & EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS III USM

EOS 40D & 5D Mark IV

430EX III-RT & 600EX II-RT

Will my canon 250D work with studio lights, my old camera which is a 4000D didn’t work because of a missing contact in the hotshoe. The hotshoes on the cameras look the same so i’m not sure if this camera will work or not. If it doesn’t is there anything i can do?

What specific features do you need in the camera a mid range camera may better suit your needs. When it comes to strobes or external flash units an entry level camera you may be quite limited. I would look into a mid range body ie EOS 90D.

-Demetrius

EF 16-35mm F/2.8L III USM, EF 24-70mm F/2.8L II USM, EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM, EF 50 F/1.8 STM & EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS III USM

EOS 40D & 5D Mark IV

430EX III-RT & 600EX II-RT

Actually, a Godox V860 series with TTL has version made for Canon SL3. Also a TTL flash extender/repeater will work…. With high performance features— so you’re not stuck with Speedlite as your only option.

I would verify compatibility just because a 3rd party item says it "compatible". Doesn't necessary mean it will be 100% compatible especially with different cameras. Or even the same camera with older or newer firmware installed on them.

-Demetrius

EF 16-35mm F/2.8L III USM, EF 24-70mm F/2.8L II USM, EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM, EF 50 F/1.8 STM & EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS III USM

EOS 40D & 5D Mark IV

430EX III-RT & 600EX II-RT

You also have to be concerned with a flash unit/system's trigger voltage. This is the voltage that is carried into the camera when firing the flash. Digital cameras typically have a limit of around 6 volts without burning out the flash circuitry of the camera. Older flash units can be 250 volts or higher. There are devices used between the camera hot shoe and the flash connector that step-down to 6 volts maximum. The Wein Safe-Sync is one of them.
