Turn off the camera, and remove the memory card. Leave it out. You need a new one, most likely.

Hopefully, the display has returned when you turn the camera on. If so, turn the top dial to P shooting mode. Go into the menus, and reset the camera back to factory defaults.

Also make sure the eyecup is fully seated.

Welcome to the forum Lindy.

To avoid shotgun answers can you exactly describe what is happening and what your camera settings are? I.e. - is it in green square auto, power on, etc.

Sure sounds defective. Try this:

1. go to the menu and find the option to "Clear all camera settings" - select it.

2. set lens to AF

3. Set Camera to A (usually in a green square)

4. press the DOF preview button near lens mount while looking through viewfiner - does image darken?

5. go outside on a sunny day and snap a photo of something.

Still have that problem? If so, most likely defective. Will the seller take it back?
