topic R5 overheats @ 120fps but not 60fps in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

I spent the last 4 days shooting my daughter's volleyball tournament. Used a mix of stills 20 FPS burst high res jpeg, and video, at both 60 FPS with audio and 120 FPS without audio. RF 28-70 lens (especially for video) and RF 70-200 for longer distance stills. My first couple matches shooting 120 FPS overheated the camera relatively quickly. When I switched to 60fps, to avoid overheating and get the soundtrack of the exciting action, I was able to make it through a two set match roughly 1 hour with no problem. Not filming continuously, but start stop with each serve and point. Shooting 4k. Interesting to learn the nuances of thermal management. A Nikon Pro shooter told me he has permanently removed the doors on his CF card slot. Does disabling the LCD screen help a lot? If only a little, I wouldn't bother.

Most of the heat generated is from the processor that is working extremely hard to process the much higher data flows from using 120 FPS. The R5 was really a stills camera with weather sealing (and thus retains heat from lack of venting) that has some video capability, but I would debate that it was designed to work at 120FPS for extended periods - that is more like the R5c which has extra video capability and venting.
I am not a video specialist, but I was told that opening the flippy screen out (as opposed to folding it back into the body) would help to some degree. I tried and the camera will not work with card slot doors open.

Thanks Trevor. Yes, I also discovered the camera will not operate with memory card door open. Oh well. Seems I can shot an hour plus of [stop and start] sports action at 4K 60fps. That'll have to do at this price point.

No one said battery door. Nikon pro had modified his cameras to allow them to operate with memory card doors removed completely. Trevor and I both experienced the same functionality: Canon R5 won't operate with MEMORY card door open. Not going to hack my hardware like the Nikon pro. Just thought that was curious. He's also bursting raw images at 120fps. Yes, 120. Makes videos from his stills. Yikes.
