A 6D, if I understand it correctly, can be either. Phones and PCs generally prefer to be clients, so it's simplest to configure the camera as an access point. But if the object is to get out to the Internet, you pretty well have to have the camera be the client, in which case the phone or PC has to be an access point and effectively function as a router. It's usually possible, but you need to really know what you're doing.

I am a fairly savvy tech person. The camera is certainly in WiFi mode, there is no way to force it in to pairing mode otherwise. You have to connect to a wireless network first, then pair. The pairing is where EOS Utility fails. It just sits there looking for the camera and never finds it.

This all worked great until the latest Windows 10 Update.

My 80D also did not come with a usb cable I just bought the body, battery.

Now for your wifi hook up after you get your camera ready to pare with your phone open up your wifi on your phone leave the wifi screen open then hit on your camera the phone icon you should see your phone pare up with the camera.

While that is colliqually true, the end result here is that a uPNP lsitener is paired with the camera itself to act as a bridge to allow the OS to use the camera as if it were attached to it, so technicallly you are pairing (and the camera even calls this action "pairing").

No, it is not using Bluetooth -- at least it better not be. I am not at the machines having the problem now, so I cannot check to see if their bluetooth stack is enabled.

That software runs on a PC and is separate from Canon Camera Connect on Smartphones. #4 is broken and no longer works. The camera supports WiFi in the traditional sense that it joins a network via its SSID, provides WEP passwords, obtains an IP address from a DHCP server, etc. I am not sure why we are arguing over what is and what is not wireless.

Who's arguing? I see that they have changed it, and added to the illustration, since the camera was first released.
