Many of the high end Canon bodies include an "Interval Timer", which is not a true intervalometer. All that it does is blindly fire the shutter at set intervals. The actual exposure is set by the conventional camera settings. The Interval Timer does not control expousre, at all.

The R6 includes the Interval Timer feature. In your scenario, I would set the Interval Timer to 20 seconds, for a 15 second exposure plus a 5 second interval between shots. Setup the exposure in Manual Shooting mode. All that the Interval Timer feature [will do] is send a "trigger" to the camera's shutter to fire.

This feature works well for any length exposures up to the camera's maximum of 30 seconds. I do not think it likes to play with Bulb shooting mode.

I plan on starting astrophotography and will be buying a Canon EOS R6 for this.

It is possible to, say, set it up to open the shutter for 15-seconds, then close it for 5-seconds and then open it again for another 15-seconds, and so on?

If this is not possible, then I. guess that I. will have to purchase an intervalometer.

Thanks,

Peter
