topic file numbering in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

I use continuous file numbering and Record function Separate enable.

I take mostly photo's (raw and jpg) that write to the SD card (folder 100). The photo after 9999, 0001, was written to the next folder 101 (note that folder 101 was only created on the SD card, not the CF Express. The last movie I took was numbered 9981 in folder 101 on the CF express card. The last picture I took was numbered 307. I then took a movie and it was numbered 9982, again in folder 100 on the CF express card. I went back to shooting pictures and the numbering went to 9983 (in folder 101, so there is a gap in numbering from 308 - 9982). This continued to happen several times and the latest folder on sd card is 104 CF express is still 100. Why did the CF express card not create a 101 folder so to keep continuous numbering?

I think this might explain it.

Your camera is probably set up for the CFe card as the default for video files
