7D II GPS slow to update

I have my GPS set to update every 5 seconds but, in practice, it often takes much longer. The camera is on an open boat in a non-metallic case. I did not have this problem with my previous camera, an ancient Sony a77v, traveling the same route. Is the GPS defective or is this the best I can expect?

That might be the best that you can get. How well does it perform outside of the box? That's your answer. I suggest you try it and test it out for yourself. Also, I believe the GPS module is in the top of the camera, above the viewfinder. At least that is where it is hidden in a 6D.
