Welcome, Rachel. Can you post one or two examples of pictures with black lines through them? That might help us figure out what's wrong.

One quick thing to try - format your memory card inside the camera and see if that helps. Yellow wrench menu #1, last item, and press SET. WARNING! This will erase all pictures on your card, so if there are important pictures on there, copy them to your computer first.

Hi Rachel,

I saw your post on another forum, with image samples.

To me that looks like a faulty camera.

At most I'd reinstall (or update) the firmware.... that's something you can do yourself and costs nothing... just download the firmware from the Canon USA website and intall it following the instructions carefully.

If that doesn't help, I'd ask about exchanging the camera, if possible. Or send it to Canon Service Dept. to be checked.

***********
Alan Myers

San Jose, Calif., USA
"Walk softly and carry a big lens."
GEAR: 5DII, 7D(x2), 50D(x3), some other cameras, various lenses & accessories
FLICKR & PRINTROOM
