With Magic Lantern on your camera it is possible to monitor audio, but you need to buy a special A/V Out Headphone Monitoring Cable that you plug into the USB out on your camera.

Are you 100% sure that this cable works with Canon 3ti bought in 2013? I am desperate to be able to monitor audio and it seems impossible. What a flaw in this camera . Thank you

From what I have read, Magic Lantern 2.3 will not let you use Audio Monitoring with the T3i. I read that it will be included in ML version 2.4

People are using it now with ML version 2.3 but you have to download and run the "Nightly Builds" in addition to ML 2.3
