Canon Eos Rebel Xti

I have Canon Rebel Xti that shows there are 222 images on SD card. When I try to display individual photos on camera screen it says "no images". Any ideas why this is happening?

If you are seeing "222" on the info screen... the screen that also shows the shutter speed, ISO, aperture, etc... that's the estimated number of shots remaining available on the card. In other words, based on the size of the memory card and the average size of image files, the camera is telling you how many shots you can take, before the card will be full.

That number will be higher if the camera is set to shoot only JPEG images which are more compact and compressed, while the number will be lower if set to shoot RAW which are bigger, uncompressed files, and the number will be reduced even more if the camera is set to shoot RAW + JPEG. The number of shots also vary depending upon image quality settings (fine, medium, coarse, etc.)

The number of images that can be fit onto the card varies a bit depending upon subject matter.... so the "222" would only be an estimate. You actually might end up able to take a few more or a few less shots before the card is full.

Wow then I've lost all photos on this card? I didn't knowly delete them. Anyway to retrieve them?

Did you format the card? That will "erase" all the images on the card and prepare it for new use (and the camera will show space available, as described above).

Actually, formatting doesn't really erase the images... it just marks them all as "okay to overwrite". So, until you take more photos, they are still there and usually can be retrieved with an image recovery software. If needed, do a search about image recovery for more info.

But, are you sure it's not a different card? Just askin' because I've done that... thought an empty card was one I'd shot and wondered where my photos had gone... then found them on a different card.

I took photos yesterday and filled up the card. I only have the one card so will look into image recovery software. Thanks!

I'd stop using the SD card as well. The XTi takes only CF cards, so you must be using an adapter. The adapter is one more critical device that can fail and cost you your shoot. I'm not necessarily suggesting that that's what lost your pictures this time, but it's usually a good thing to be as risk-averse as possible.

Get a new CF card. Toss that one. Get a good high quality one, too. As Bob from Boston suggests do not use a SD card and adapter.
