topic Canon Rebel T5i, auto focus dot is off center to the right, and pictures are blurry in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

I have tried changing the focus type, but the red light is always within the farthest right box, never in the center where I expect it to be. This is a new camera out of the box, and I have taken less than 100 photos so far. Do I have a defective camera?? )I understand there is no adjustment mechanism on the Rebel series)

What shooting mode is the camera using? If you do not know, then you should read the manual. If you do not have a digital copy of it, you can download it from Canon's Support Pages.

https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support

Out of the box, the camera is in the most basic mode, green square "A" mode. This is simple point and shoot mode. The camera picks whatever autofocus point that it wants to focus on, which is usually the last AF point it used or the closest object to the camera. In this mode you have very little control of the camera, besides the shutter button.

The best mode to use to learn how to use the camera is "P" mode, which allows you to manually select AF points. I suggest that you figure out how to select that center AF point and always use that, because it is the most sensitive AF point of them all.

Page 100 of the instruction manual tells you how to change it:
