80D DNG Raw files

OK I get it Adobe won't recognize the 80D raw files. I convert to DNG as advised but DNG does not carry over all the EXIF data. I have to shoot raw and JPG so the computer will even read the card. It won't read just ther raw files. So then I import all using Bridge and have to transfer raw to dng and lose much of the exif data. Keywords ISO camera model etc.

Any alternatives?

Adobe does read CR2 files from the 80D. You may have to update ACR.

I have CS6 and I tried to install latest ACR. ACR 9.5 is not backward compatible.

I have Lightroom 6 and I have no trouble reading my 80D cr2 fils.

LR 6 got a couple more updates to ACR than CS6 did. If you get LR6, you can still find it but it is getting more difficult, you can have LR open or import the Raw files. Then use the "Edit in" tab in LR to send it to PS.

That is a computer issue not DNG or PS. Are you on a Mac? They have problems with Raw files a lot of the time. I don't know how to fix them. If it is a WIndoze machine you probably need a new codec.

Use Canon's DPP, it's made for the job and it's free.

You might also try to use the Canon software - EOS Utility. It can always read RAW files, do minor edits (like color correction) and convert them to TIFF files (mostly uncompressed) for editing in whichever image editing software you prefer.

Bridge is not going to show them (Raw files) if it is in CS6 of PS. You will need to get Bridge from CC to do that.

Not wanting to upgrade Adobe or Windoze, I think DPP4 is the best choice for you, too.

Canon stopped Codec in 2012 or something like that. There is no Codec update

Of the raw file formats DPP4 only reads CRW, CR2, CR3.
If you don't want to use CR2 from your 80D nor update Adobe that leaves you to try another raw converter instead.

I sent yesterday a raw file sample from my Canon DCS 3c to raw.pixls.us to get raw support 😉

You don't need DNG, it's only Adobe telling you to convert it because it cannot cope with your files.

Your camera produces raw cr2 files which work directly with DPP.

The Win8.1 codec group is included in Win10, so there is a codec for cr2 files, but it might not work with the latest cameras. I don't have an 80D but it works with my 1DX which is not listed so d/l the update might work for the 80D as well. It won't hurt.

You simply do any adjustments to the raw file in DPP then if you need to you can export the file to Photoshop as a jpg or tiff file. For the vast majority of pictures you don't even need Photoshop.

That is your opinion not a fact. If you are pleased with DPP all the best to you. Glad it works well for you but the entire photographic world uses LR and/or PS. Not DPP. I grant you DPP4 is a great amateur program particularly if you are a completely Canon user.

Don't get me wrong I am not an Adobe fan club member. Far from it after they went to there idiotic rental mode. But the facts are as they are. There is Photoshop and then there is everything else.
