I hope somebody can help with this,

My Canon 100D keeps having issues with showing the data on the back of the camera whilst shooting (as if the proximity sensor is being triggered) but it isn't (I've checked by turning to proximty function off).

The rear LCD then refuses to show any of my settings unless I drill into the menu through the menu (hard) button.

My LCD is working as it should otherwise and I can get the screen to work again as it should by doing a factory reset.

Any anybody help diagnose the issue?

This is exactly what happened to me and the solution given worked: after making sure the eye cap was in its correct position, the LCD screen worked as expected again! Thanks!

I’m not sure what data you are expecting or wanting to see. I used to own a Rebel T5 / 1200D. It lacked a top LCD info display.

I found that the rear LCD can do a better job of displaying real time exposure settings than the smaller topside LCD display found on mid-range cameras.

Here’s how. Press the [Info] button until you see a display that looks similar to the one that is displayed when you press the [Q] button, Quick Control Screen.

You should be ready to go once you call up the right display by using the [Info] button. One press on the Shutter and the display should come alive!

I use this technique a lot when I’m shooting landscape panoramic captures. It works great when the camera is on a tripod when the camera is angled upwards to shoot the Moon.

This trick works on every Canon DSLR that I have used going back to the 1Ds Mark III and later. It works on the MILC bodies, too, both M and R series.

Waddizzle, my rear LCD screen did not show anything (problem), it remained black. It could show pictures taken, but not any settings at all (like your picture).
Turned out that the eyecap was a bit slided up. When I put the eyecap in correct position (solution), the rear LCD screen did work again. Problem solved.
