Viewfinder switching from white space in image to black

When I am viewing my images in the viewfinder it switches every few seconds from white space to black space. How can I get this to turn off?

You don't say which camera, but it sounds link Highlight Warning is flashing showing overexposure areas.

Check your manual to see if you can turn off Highlight Warning.

If not, adjust your exposure to eliminate the blinkies.

For some scenes you can't avoid them.
