In reading and testing out the pop-up flash it seems the flash will only fire off if the camera senses the need for light. What if I want to add a little light to the subject even if the camera thinks there is enough light. Is there a way to have the flash go on even under seemingly well lit conditions? Is this a possibility with using an external flash on the hot shoe? I normally like to shoot at 1/1000 shutter speed or faster.

I'm interested in using this type of feature on wildlife where I often encounter backlit conditions or suboptimal lighting. Attachments can be obtained for both external flashes and the pop-up flash that help project the light a further distance hence my need to get the flash to fire at my will and not the camera's will.

That was an easy solution. These instructions say it works in Scene Intelligent Auto and Creative Auto modes but actually it does the same thing for the Creative Zone functions also which is what I use (aperature or shutter priority). So the instruction booklet does not mention this which is what I was looking for.
