Beep on 7D MK2

I cant seem to get the beep for focus lock when using anything but "auto mode". Is this normal? Yes it is activated in the menu.

That is odd. You did not set up any custom functions C1 - C3 or something like that? Mine works in every mode.

No, only had the 7D for a few days and havent even set any C functions yet.

Go to Menu, Camera 1 tab, and ensure that you have Beep enabled.

Beep is enabled and still no beep unless in auto mode.

Are you in AI Servo AF? Beeper will then not sound as confirmation ...

Change it to One Shot AF.

AHHH. Problem solved. Thanks Paul. Is it like that with all Canon DSLR's? I've had other Canons and never noticed.

Hi. Yes this is one of the many Canon defaults, unfortunately ...
I panicked too, when it happened the first time.

Is that the same on Canon EOS 7D camera's ? Mine never beeps. I'm wondering if there's a setting that I'm not enabling. I am on automatic focus and Using One Shot.

I'm in the unfortunate position that due to my age I have greatly reduced hearing in the high frequencies and can only just hear the beep on most cameras. My wife who has the hearing abilities of a bat always complains that they are too loud

So funny ! My audiologist says that my hearing is fine, except for the frequencies that my wife's voice is at. She thinks it's on purpose. So... after I posted my question.... and did some more research... I found the function to turn BEEP on. Well it didn't work. But yesterday when we were photographing a wind surfer on skis, on the frozen lakes, I heard it beep. Just barely. I guess it's working, but like you, my age and hearing don't match the beep. Even my coffee pot beeps.. I seldom ever hear it but my wife always says.... "did you hear it"... No, not at all. Yet I was pouring the coffee right next to it. Just wanted to reach out and say Thank You for your response.
