Which red light? If it is the card access light, you might need a new card, or make sure you have one in the camera.

I haven't used my rebel in a couple of years and decided to break it out again. I charged the battery but a red light comes on and it won't let me press the button to snap the picture. Will I need to take it to a repair shop? Anyone else had this issue?

You have several issues to think about here. One the battery may be bad. Two the charger may be bad. Those have to be eliminated from the issue first. You should buy a new SD card exactly like the manual recommends, Do not buy something other than it.

If this fixes it, great. You then need to do a full reset of the T5. If the proven good battery/charger and new SD card do not fix it, you need to know the camera is only worth $150 ro $200 if it is in very good working condition. That does not leave a lot of room for a repair shop. You need to call Canon to make sure they still even service the T5.
